Color-change vinyl

A color-change wrap applies a film over the vehicle’s exterior. Discuss the finish, seams, removal and condition of the existing paint with a qualified installer. It does not repair damaged paint beneath it.

Paint and paint protection film

Repainting changes the painted surface and can be appropriate when bodywork or paint repair is needed. Paint protection film is a separate product category intended to protect a finish; some ranges also change color. Do not assume ordinary color-change vinyl has the same impact protection as a specified PPF product.

Ask for the exact product

Compare the intended use and warranty of the proposed material. Bring your priorities—appearance, repair, protection and future removal—to the consultation. Get samples and a written scope, and avoid treating a screen preview as proof of a real material’s protective performance.

Bring your priorities in order

Write down whether the main goal is appearance, damage repair or protection. An installer can then explain which proposed product addresses that goal and where its limits are. Ask how the finish will be maintained and removed, and whether combining products would complicate the job.
